My Birding classes- Session 1
In 2021 when the pandemic was still full-fledged, I spent my time gazing out of the window. I saw many birds of different sizes and colors. Each morning I woke up to the sweet chirping of a Red Whiskered BulBul. During the afternoons I heard a kutroo kutroo sound of the White Cheeked Barbet that lives in the mango tree right across our compound wall. I also used to hear Kites screeching. One such Kite always sat on a pole nearby. I named it Bourbon after my favorite biscuit which I eat with milk.
Pigeons dominate the place, though. Every night when I go to brush my teeth in the bathroom, they fight and noisily move around.
When I wake up early at 6:00 AM I see crows sitting on the pole. If I am really lucky I see Brahminy Kites soaring in the sky.
Now it is almost the end of 2022 and I still enjoy bird-watching. Last week was really special for me because I started my first online bird-watching workshop/ classes with an NGO- Early Bird. The classes are on Wednesday and Saturday for four weeks. The first class was an introductory class where we introduced ourselves with birdy names. My birdy name is Banglore Sweet—Toned Hummer. We are introduced to an app- Graphy in the session that we should use. This Saturday we learned about Nature Journaling. We had an activity to find something from nature and talk about the things we observed from it. We also had another activity where we had to observe something from nature (just from our neighborhood garden, parks, pathways, etc) and write it down. Our teacher told us this activity is called nature journaling. We have to send the work we did about nature journaling in the Graphy app. I made observations on a kite as below:
This course is for four weeks and I have only experienced one week. I hope to journal all my happenings through my blog and tell you all about my classes. Hope you enjoy it!
