Book Review: Charlotte's web
Recently I read one of E.B White’s classics- Charlotte’s Web. It is a tale I will never forget.
I believe that animals have the same right to freedom as humans do. Fern, an eight-year-old girl believes this too. Fern's father owns a pigpen, which he uses to sell pigs and make a living. When a weak piglet, a runt, was born, he decided to have it killed. However, Fern saved the piglet and took care of it until it was two months old. She named the pig Wilbur. Her parents agreed that Wilbur had grown too big for them to continue to care for, so they sold it to Fern's uncle. Fern would go to her uncle’s barn every day after school and even during her summer holidays to meet her beloved pet. Wilbur was taken to the barn where he was introduced to all the animals living there - the goose, gander, Templeton (a rat), the sheep, lambs, cows, and horses. However, all the animals were occupied with their work and Wilbur felt lonely without any friends. One day though, he met a spider who had spun her web in the corner of the doorway. The spider’s name is Charlotte and she and Wilbur become good friends. When Wilbur learns that Mr.Zuckerman, Fern's uncle, is going to kill him, he becomes very scared. However, Charlotte is determined to save Wilbur's life and comes up with a plan. She spins a web with the words "some pig" on it, which leaves the barn owner amazed. When Wilbur asks Charlotte why she decided to help him, she simply says that good friends always help each other. And so, their adventure begins. Will Charlotte's diligent efforts and excellent plan be sufficient to rescue her friend Wilbur?
I liked this book as it shows children that in life there are ups and downs but you have to face them both. I hope to grow Charlotte’s great qualities in my own life and after you read this book I am very sure that you will feel the same way.
I recommend this book for people of all ages who love animals and want to learn how to be a good friend like Charlotte. It is simple and easy to understand. This heartwarming story by E.B. White might bring happy tears to your eyes.
